Why It Matters

Legal Requirement

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires all commercial and industrial premises to have suitable fire detection and means of escape. Non-compliance can result in prosecution.

Protect People & Assets

Industrial fires can be catastrophic. Early detection saves lives and limits property damage.

Insurance Compliance

Industrial insurance policies typically require certified fire detection and emergency lighting systems. Failures can void cover.

Industrial Safety System Compliance in the West Midlands

Industrial facilities carry some of the most serious fire and safety risks of any building type. Large open-plan footprints, high-value plant, flammable or combustible materials and complex production processes all increase the likelihood and potential severity of a fire or safety incident — which is why the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 impose particularly demanding obligations on industrial Responsible Persons. FACE Electrical installs and maintains the electrical safety systems that industrial businesses across the West Midlands need to comply with these requirements and genuinely protect their people.

We design and install addressable fire alarm systems to BS 5839 for large, multi-zone industrial facilities, emergency escape lighting to BS 5266, gas detection systems linked to alarm sounders and forced ventilation controls, and machine safety electrical wiring including emergency stop circuits, safety relay logic and light curtain integration. Our industrial safety team works across manufacturing, warehousing, food production, chemical processing and logistics sites in Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Dudley, West Bromwich and throughout the West Midlands region.

For ATEX-classified hazardous areas — zones where flammable gases, vapours or combustible dusts create explosion risk — we install ATEX-rated equipment appropriate to the zone classification, fully documented to satisfy insurers and the HSE.

Annual testing, certification and log book maintenance for all installed safety systems is available as part of our ongoing maintenance service.

Legislation & Standards We Work To

  • RRO 2005 — Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order
  • BS 5839 — Fire detection & alarm systems
  • BS 5266 — Emergency lighting
  • ATEX Directive — Hazardous area equipment & wiring
  • BS EN ISO 13849 — Safety of machinery electrical systems

How It Works

01

Risk Assessment Review

We review the existing fire risk assessment and identify requirements for fire detection and emergency lighting.

02

System Design

We design a system compliant with BS 5839 (fire alarms) and BS 5266 (emergency lighting) for your premises.

03

Installation

Systems are installed with minimal disruption. We can work around production schedules and shutdowns.

04

Commissioning & Handover

Systems are fully commissioned, tested and handed over with all certification and log books.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of fire alarm is required for an industrial building?

Most industrial premises require at minimum a Category L2 or M system. Premises with high-value plant or complex layouts typically benefit from addressable systems with zone mapping.

How often must emergency lighting be tested?

Monthly flick tests and an annual full-duration discharge test are required under BS 5266. We can install addressable test systems that automate this and generate test records.

Do you install gas detection systems?

Yes. We install fixed gas detection for LPG, natural gas, CO and other gases, linked to alarm sounders and forced ventilation controls.

Can you connect to an existing monitored fire alarm?

Yes. We can extend, modify or upgrade existing systems and connect to monitoring centres via GSM or IP communicators.
